IGI Certification for Lab Grown Diamonds

An IGI lab grown diamond certificate accompanies each lab grown diamond amounting to 0.50 carats and above.

What is IGI?

The International Geological Institute (IGI) is an international gemological laboratory with 50 years of expertise grading diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry.

They are the world's first gemological laboratory to hold accreditation in both natural and lab gown grading.

IGI screens every diamond using state-of-the-art technologies to determine lab grown diamond quality under strictly controlled conditions.

How are lab grown diamonds graded?

Following the diamond-cutting process and prior to being sold loose or mounted into jewelry, diamonds submitted to gemological institutions such as IGI for quality assessment. IGI screens every diamond using state-of-the-art technologies to determine naturally mined, laboratory-grown grown, or simulant origin. Experienced graduate gemologists conduct further assessments in controlled conditions, detailing relevant gemological characteristics according to the strictest international system.

Four main factors are considered when judging a diamond’s quality and value. They are the diamond’s 4C’s: Carat Weight, Color, Clarity, and Cut.

What if I have lost or need a reprint of my Lab Grown Diamond Certificate?

Customers may email the IGI registration office (sonam@igi.org) to request a re-print of their certificate.

IGI will mail the re-printed certificate to your requested address. Re-prints are $10.00 per copy.

What is the return policy for Lab Grown Diamonds?

Engraved pieces, Birthday Discount purchases, gift cards, Kendra Scott Branded merchandise, custom pieces created at the Color Bar® and permanently discounted or marked down merchandise are considered Final Sale and are not eligible for return or exchange. All other unworn, eligible unused items may be returned at your nearest Kendra Scott store for exchange or store credit only within 30 days of purchase. An IGI certificate is required for all returns in store for available products.

Eligible online purchases may be sent back to the Kendra Scott distribution center with product in original packaging with tags in order to receive a full refund as well as the product’s IGI certificate, if applicable.

Kendra Scott, LLC provides FREE RETURN SHIPPING for eligible items. A pre-paid, pre-addressed return shipping label will be provided with every qualifying order purchased on the website. If you have misplaced your shipping label, you can print a replacement pre-paid return shipping label by visiting kendrascott.com/returns. Please allow up to 15 business days for your return to be processed. Business days are Monday-Friday except for federal holidays. Return processing begins after your package is delivered to us. Products that originally arrived with certifications may not be returned without the original certification(s) provided. Any returns without original certificate is subject to a $10.00 re-print fee and refund is held until Kendra Scott receives the product and re-printed certificates.
